Of Hindsight, Foresight, and Writing Wisdom.

After having done countless rereads, proofreads, edits, and rewrites of Empyreal Illusions for its May 29, 2013 release, I’ve learned a few things:

Quill and Pen

1) Make sure to NOT overwrite the 2-3x edited over version of the novel on your Mac with the unedited, OLD version on the PC. Yeah. Talk about a clean-up headache.

2) Each time I do a full novel edit, my ability to write becomes a bit crisper, a bit more concise, and the editor’s eye becomes just a little sharper.

3) Definitely make sure ALL edits are 100% complete before submitting it to a formatter. It can make for some stress and needless headaches otherwise!

4) ** YOU ARE OUR OWN HARDEST CRITIC. ** Accept it. Don’t deny it. You know it’s true. Acknowledgement is the first step to overcoming it.

5) If I ever find myself looking for a change of pace at work, I am so starting my own editing / proofreading service.

Empyreal Illusions has YA Fantasy elements mixed with undertones of adult criminal-underworld-fiction. It also blends icons and elements from over a dozen cultures / religions / ways of life. Yes, it’s a genre bender. It’s unique, and I’m VERY proud of it. I hope you’ll all love it as much as I do.

That being said … finishing touches are in the works for its sequel, Awakening the Fire!!!

Thank you again for your endless support. It means the world to me!

Totally agree, I don’t know how many times I’ve been editing my first novel Massive Black Hole. Every time I read it I want to change something! On to the editing business…
