A Weekend’s Thoughts

I began to read Crown of Vengeance by Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory this weekend. It takes place around a millennium before The Obsidian Mountain trilogy (quite amazing series, I must add in). I also caved and purchased a new laptop on Sunday. It’s a small yet very efficient Asus Q200e model. It has an 11.6″ screen with Windows 8 and touch screen capabilities. It’s pretty good, all things considered.

The few hours it took to set up and download all the updates gave me a little while to think on the upcoming YA Romance I’m going to begin soon. I had actually thought of the idea for it nearly two years ago and had put it on the back burner for a while so I could finish Empyreal Illusions and Awakening the Fire. I had another project in mind that I was going to work on first, an adult fantasy series, but I decided to give the YA Romance priority because I just seem readier to write it. I have to say that I am really looking forward to bringing it all to life. Writing remains to be my number one joy about the whole novelization process. Don’t get me wrong; I like editing, to a point. There’s no way to really dislike it after you have done it so many times because, as we know, the majority of writing is re-writing.

Still, to be able to share the world I’ve created in my head and to tell the story I already hold dearly to others with a few (well, more than a few) strokes of a keyboard is truly amazing. One just cannot duplicate the feeling of achievement they have as a few words become a sentence that lengthens into a paragraph and expands to a page, then heightens to a chapter, then grows to a full novel. It is just an awe-inspiring (and sometimes frustrating, no lie) experience! It really is a great source of joy and stress relief to me, and I hope that the finished product – whenever that may come – will be the same to you.
